Blogathon: Misconception

One of the primary misconceptions that people have about the Developmental Disabilities Association is that our Child Development Centres are preschools/daycares for children with developmental disabilities. On the contrary, our Child Development Centres service every type of childregardless of disability or ability; they are inclusive daycares that promote growth and learning for children.

I’ve been able to visit a few of our Child Development Centres in the past, and they’re great environments always filled with smiling faces and fun events. Anecdotally, it seems like there’s an approximate 1:15 ratio for children with a developmental disability to typical children. From what I recall (my memory is a bit hazy at 3:30am), but the DDA is either the second or third largest daycare service provider in the Lower Mainland.
